Brisbane, Australia For Release 24th September, 2003 HighRoad used in the AASHTO TRAC Education Outreach Program Creative Engineering is pleased to announce that HighRoad has been selected by the TRAC Program of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for its hands-on education outreach program. TRAC (Transportation and Civil Engineering) is made available to secondary schools (high schools and middle schools) through regional centres where the Departments of Transportation (DOTs) work in partnership with other government organisations, universities, non-profit organizations, and private industry. TRAC is a program designed for integrating practical engineering applications and problems into science, math, and social studies classes. The curriculum utilises a computer and mini-lab of electronic equipment (TRAC PAC) that includes HighRoad in the classroom. Practicing engineers serve as professional resources to secondary schools. TRAC teams of civil engineers and transportation professionals are positive career role models and sources of information for students and teachers. HighRoad is used by the students to design and layout roads interactively. By hiding its complex road geometry algorithms behind a responsive user interface HighRoad allows the students to try a variety of ideas and get immediate feedback. When the design is finished, the student can generate a drive through simulation complete with traffic to see how their ideas work. By combining easy to use software and engineering mentors with the current math and science curriculum, TRAC hopes to generate more student interest in engineering, math and the sciences. In the USA, distribution and support of HighRoad is handled by Mark Florence, P.E., Daystar Software in Kansas City. He has worked closely with TRAC to integrate HighRoad into TRAC PAC. HighRoad runs on Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, NT 4.0, and Macintosh, and uses industry standard formats for road design and terrain data. This innovative software is an Australian product. Creative Engineering is a wholly Australian owned company and was established in 1986 to develop advanced road design software. This software is in use around the world and has been sold in over 40 countries. It is available in languages other than English - Kanji, Italian and Spanish.
