How to use this manual

Welcome to HighRoad, a road design, building pad design and terrain modelling application for Macintosh and Windows. This manual is divided into three parts.

1. Learning HighRoad

This section teaches you the basics of HighRoad through self-paced exercises. You will learn how to create a terrain model, design two roads (with an intersection and cul-de-sac) and a building pad and a dam.

2. Using HighRoad

This section presents a detailed explanation of various elements of road design as implemented in HighRoad. These techniques are listed in the order you would generally use them.

3. HighRoad reference

This section outlines the elements of the HighRoad package. This section provides a directory of HighRoad commands, HighRoad's specifications, and descriptions of the algorithms used to calculate the elements of the design.

Note: The examples and diagrams in this manual are shown in metric units. You can choose to work in either metric or imperial units when using HighRoad. We recommend that, to avoid confusion, you use metric units when following the examples. Choose Preferences from the Edit menu and select Metric. The diagrams in this manual may look slightly different depending on which operating system that you are using.
